Adding E sport to Olympic
Why Olympics should contain E-sport:
I found myself sitting on a Pocket Gamer website gaming panel that concentrated on Olympics and sports. We debated whether esports filled that void in sporting events, including the Olympic Games, which were paused because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was an fascinating discussion, which began like most panels in esports. The only distinction here is that "When do athletics catch up with mainstream sports, instead of the standard question? "It was," he added, "can athletics become the mainstream enough to enter the Olympics? "A slightly different topic, but the same feeling: foreign games are one of the signature events in television sports.
I imagine anybody will be shocked to hear that the average age of almost all mainstream sports fans skews older than the demographic in esports. Even then I think it will be quite surprising to see the actual data.
In recent years, the IOC made the decision to broadcast the Olympics (the way content is viewed by most younger people), but it limited the ability to watch live for 30 minutes because fans did not sign in with their cable company (a partnership many millennials do not have) to continue watching.
Nevertheless, unlike the Games, where no company holds volleyball or pole vault rights, the Copyright associated with the game itself is owned by all the esports corporations. This means, by implication, in taking choices on how to represent the sports, content, licensing rights and other considerations that it has enjoyed for a long time, the IOC will have no carte blanche.
